In this edition of Through The Arsenal Gates Glenn O'Kray interviews Frank Joyce, Activist. The interview begins with Frank telling us about his childhood and the neighborhoods he grew up in. Frank talks about work he had along the way including a paper route, and how that started his long-standing association with newspapers and print journalism. Frank got his start in radio journalism at WABX, and jumped to television with WTVS before becoming the news director at WDET. He eventually moved on to become the assistant director, and later director of the communications department for the UAW in Detroit. Frank talks about the challenges of that position during tumultuous years for the big three automakers. We learn about Frank's involvement in activism during the 1967 insurrection in Detroit and the Vietnam war, along with his continuing work against racism and how that has defined his life.
